Valmiki’s Ramayana (10001)

(10 customer reviews)

Valmiki’s Ramayana is believed to be the first poetic work written in Sanskrit; it is, therefore, referred to as the Adikavya. It is said that Brahma assured Valmiki that “as long as the mountains stand and the rivers flow, so long shall the Ramayana be read by men”. In the Puranas, Rama is described as an avatar of Vishnu, but Valmiki does not refer to him as God. The few verses which do so are considered interpolations. The Ramayana consists of 24,000 verses. There are six sections – The Bala Kanda, the Ayodhya Kanda, the Aranya Kanda, the Kishkindha Kanda, the Sundara Kanda and the Yuddha Kanda. The seventh section, the Uttara Kanda, is probably an interpolation. Valmiki’s monumental work influenced other great poems on the same theme. Among these are the Hindi, Tamil and Bengali versions of the Ramayana written by Tulsidas in the North; Kamban in the South; and Krittivasa in the East. The Ramayana has made a deep and abiding impact. Bas reliefs and paintings depicting scenes from the Ramayana are to be found not only in temples all over India, but also in Indonesia and Angkor Vat, Kampuchea.

10 thoughts on “Valmiki’s Ramayana (10001)

  1. The first Epic of the World in its original version by the thief turned Saint Valmiki. Excellent portrayal of Rama and his duties as a Loving Son Prince and many other relations.

  2. I brought this book for my kid and after reading this I found it will be very helpfull to enhance his Vocabulary and building of his personality as influence by acts of the lord Rama. This is pefect story and easily understandable by the depiction of cartoon work. I appreciate the the quality of printing and literature work.

  3. Good book with quick progression of events. We enjoyed reading it with good pictures and illustrations. Thank you very much

  4. Had this comic book in 1987. To relive the childhood memories, purchased this for my 9 yr old daughter. Illustration are same. Slight change in colour quality and paper.

  5. My kid asked who is Ram so I bought this book. I watched Ramayana on DD in the eighties and had forgotten some of the story. This book was a good refresher. My kid also enjoyed reading it.There are 2 Ramayana stories on Amazon. This is Valmiki version (96 pages) and the other is Tulsidas version (160 pages)

  6. There is no better way than this to introduce Indian Epics to children. Written in conversational mode with pixtures. Every Indian child should start with reading Ramayan from Amar Chitra Katha
