The story of Seiko began in 1881, when a 22 year old entrepreneur, Kintaro Hattori, opened a shop selling and repairing watches and clocks in central Tokyo. Today, after more than 130 years of innovation, Kintaro Hattori’s company isstill dedicated to the perfection that the founder always strove to achieve.
|
In 1892 Kintaro Hattori bought a disused factory in Tokyo and Seikosha was formed (In Japanese, ‘Seiko’ means ‘exquisite’, ‘minute’ or ‘success’ and ‘sha’ means house). It was here that Kintaro Hattori produced his first clocks and these marked the beginnings of a company that was to become one of the world’s most important manufacturers of timepieces.
|
Throughout the 1890’s, the success of Seikosha’s wall clock business increased, and Kintaro looked to broaden the range of his business. In 1895, he created a pocket watch, the Timekeeper. It was a vital step forward, without which the future of Seiko would have been very different as it paved the way for Japan’s first ever wrist watch.
|
In the beginning of the Taisho Era, pocket watches were still very popular and there were only a few wristwatches imported to Japan. Kintaro, however, was determined to be ‘one step ahead’ and embarked on the ardous task of creating Japan’s first ever wristwatch. In 1913, he succeeded and the Laurel was produced. In the early days, the company was able to produce only 30 to 50 watches a day, but, for the first time, Kintaro had established a lead on the rest.

Very good watch … worth the money spent … had some trouble with the delivery updates but once I shared the details with Amazon customer care , it was sorted
già fatta recensione! ottimo prodotto
After a lot of research i decided to buy this timepiece as my first automatic watch. First of all the watch looks absolutely elegant. I love the exhibition case back on the Seiko 5 line. Makes you appreciate the precision, artistry and the engineering that goes into making these watches. I love the checkered pattern on the dial (one of the features that made me buy this piece). The luminous markings are nice and bright for the dark. You could either rock this timepiece with a perlon, leather or nato which makes it super versatile. If you are a person that usually wears a watch with a case width of 40 to 43mm; which i am, get used to this one being a little on the smaller side with 38mm. My wrist size is 7.25 inches. However, doesnt take long to get used to it.For less than hundred bucks you cant go wrong with any of the seiko 5s imho. Shipping and delivery were all on time no so complaints there.
So impressed by the quality they deliver. Highly recommend getting a product from this seller.
This is a good Seiko 5 that’s more on the dressier side. It’s a reasonable size at around 37mm. An automatic movement (no hacking). A classy amount of lume. The band was easy to size. I watched a video on how to do it by Long Island Watches, and succeeded 😊All-in-All, I’m REALLY impressed with this watch, for the $100 mark.
Just a note if you plan to replace the stock bracelet: the lugs are definitely 19mm, not 20. 19mm bands are comparatively rare. Many leather 20mm bands may work but you’ll need to buy 19mm spring bars for them (or extract the OEM bars from the bracelet).

The “huge watch” trend is thankfully running its course. I never went over 45mm, and even that is looking a bit excessive to me in anything other than a diver’s or pilot’s watch. This watch is only 38mm and just looks the perfect size for me for a dress watch. The accuracy is outstanding. It loses only a few seconds a day, which is great for an automatic watch. Very easy to read, even with my bad eyesight. The only drawback is the bracelet, but then again, Seiko is unfortunately well-known for the inferiority of their bracelets. The links are rolled, not solid steel. Very problematic to remove links. (I didnt even bother trying). I already knew when I chose this Seiko that I would need an upgraded bracelet and I ordered one for it at the same time. Can’t wait till it comes as I think this will become a great everyday, work day watch.
Watch was everything that I expected . It is a fine time piece that I will use for a long time. The quality of the watch is very good and like the way it fits and feels on my wrist. The delivery service is what I expected from you. I will recommend to others to use Amazon.ca The prices and shipping costs are very reasonable compared to other web sites.
