History of the only manufacture with every watchmaking expertise

The story of Seiko began in 1881, when a 22 year old entrepreneur, Kintaro Hattori, opened a shop selling and repairing watches and clocks in central Tokyo. Today, after more than 130 years of innovation, Kintaro Hattori’s company isstill dedicated to the perfection that the founder always strove to achieve.

In 1892 Kintaro Hattori bought a disused factory in Tokyo and Seikosha was formed (In Japanese, ‘Seiko’ means ‘exquisite’, ‘minute’ or ‘success’ and ‘sha’ means house). It was here that Kintaro Hattori produced his first clocks and these marked the beginnings of a company that was to become one of the world’s most important manufacturers of timepieces.

Throughout the 1890’s, the success of Seikosha’s wall clock business increased, and Kintaro looked to broaden the range of his business. In 1895, he created a pocket watch, the Timekeeper. It was a vital step forward, without which the future of Seiko would have been very different as it paved the way for Japan’s first ever wrist watch.

In the beginning of the Taisho Era, pocket watches were still very popular and there were only a few wristwatches imported to Japan. Kintaro, however, was determined to be ‘one step ahead’ and embarked on the ardous task of creating Japan’s first ever wristwatch. In 1913, he succeeded and the Laurel was produced. In the early days, the company was able to produce only 30 to 50 watches a day, but, for the first time, Kintaro had established a lead on the rest.

In 1923, the Great Kanto Earthquake struck and the company’s headquarters and the Seikosha factory all burned down. A fresh start had to be made. Just after the earthquake, the company had created an entirely new watch and it went on sale in December 1923. It was the first to carry the name Seiko, introducing the world for the first time the brand name that was later to become synonymous with precision and accuracy, innovation and refinement.

The Seiko Quartz Astron was introduced in Tokyo on December 25, 1969. It delivered unmatched performance. It was accurate to within 5 seconds per month, 100 times more accurate than any other watch and it ran continuously for a year, or 250 times longer than most mechanical watches. The quartz revolution had begun.

10 thoughts on “Seiko Analog Red Dial Men’s Watch-SRPD69K1

  1. First of all its a solid dress watch if know what I mean. I got it for 15.2K. the images you see in the product page do not do justice in terms of colour or fit and finish. I already own a Rolex Submariner date ref. 116610LN and Seiko SKX 007. It’s kind of like everyday wear for me. The only downside I could find is the crown is not screw down type , it’s push and pull type. Although is has 10 BAR water resistance. The see through case back is a great way to appretiate the movement. The metal mesh bracelet is the type to go for. It’s a great buy if its your first mechanical watch and if you can grab one in a sale.

  2. The Seiko 5 sports watch was as described. The milanese bracelet was simple to adjust to my wrist size and was more comfortable to wear than I expected. The watch was easy to set to the correct day, date and time and it performs very well. I am very satisfied with my purchase. Well done Seiko for producing another winner.

  3. Thank you Seiko and the supplier, arrived earlier than expected. The watch is Seiko, accurate, and looks stunning. I have six other seiko’s, this one same as the others stands out in the display cabinet. Many thanks once again.

  4. The media could not be loaded.  Two words: Simply Amazing.I’m just amazed by how this dial looks in different shades of light. It shows a very rich maroon/royal red in cool white or bluish light. Looks deep blood red in dark warm light. In natural sunlight the bezel looks dark candy red and the dial looks blood red. This watch is simply amazing. If you have made up your mind for a red watch, you should go for this one. Looks classy, elegant and graceful. One more thing, let me tell you, this watch is certainly a conversation piece, everywhere you go it will turn heads if it doesnt make someone ask you about it.(No I take the watch off because I care for this beauty. Doesn’t mean that I don’t want to wear it and sleep though.)

  5. I’m very impressed with this watch, the burgundy colour scheme is quite a unique option. You do NOT need a hammer, and pliers to adjust the strap as claimed by an anonymous reviewer , only a thin coin or screwdriver is all you need to lever open and close the same adjustment clamp!I appreciate the complications and workmanship that must go into the design and manufacture of an Automatic watch mechanism, it is a marvel of man made technology. The Milanese strap complements the watch perfectly. Timekeeping is within normal parameters for an automatic movement. Water resistance of 100 meters is far in excess of any depth I would willingly venture to. Reading the time is facilitated with the large luminous watch hands and hour markers.Overall I’m very impressed with this stunning Seiko Watch.

  6. The media could not be loaded.  This is my first seiko watch .Lume of this watch is fantastic and due to its burgundy colour theme this looks awesome . Very eye catching and it’s a 24 jewels.

  7. I was not too sure about the watch when I ordered. I already had several Japanese diver watches but was bitten by the desire to have skx sometimes . this watch is cool and elegant. the mesh band and see-through back is also nice. happy to have this one. recommended.
