History of the only manufacture with every watchmaking expertise

The story of Seiko began in 1881, when a 22 year old entrepreneur, Kintaro Hattori, opened a shop selling and repairing watches and clocks in central Tokyo. Today, after more than 130 years of innovation, Kintaro Hattori’s company isstill dedicated to the perfection that the founder always strove to achieve.

In 1892 Kintaro Hattori bought a disused factory in Tokyo and Seikosha was formed (In Japanese, ‘Seiko’ means ‘exquisite’, ‘minute’ or ‘success’ and ‘sha’ means house). It was here that Kintaro Hattori produced his first clocks and these marked the beginnings of a company that was to become one of the world’s most important manufacturers of timepieces.

Throughout the 1890’s, the success of Seikosha’s wall clock business increased, and Kintaro looked to broaden the range of his business. In 1895, he created a pocket watch, the Timekeeper. It was a vital step forward, without which the future of Seiko would have been very different as it paved the way for Japan’s first ever wrist watch.

In the beginning of the Taisho Era, pocket watches were still very popular and there were only a few wristwatches imported to Japan. Kintaro, however, was determined to be ‘one step ahead’ and embarked on the ardous task of creating Japan’s first ever wristwatch. In 1913, he succeeded and the Laurel was produced. In the early days, the company was able to produce only 30 to 50 watches a day, but, for the first time, Kintaro had established a lead on the rest.

In 1923, the Great Kanto Earthquake struck and the company’s headquarters and the Seikosha factory all burned down. A fresh start had to be made. Just after the earthquake, the company had created an entirely new watch and it went on sale in December 1923. It was the first to carry the name Seiko, introducing the world for the first time the brand name that was later to become synonymous with precision and accuracy, innovation and refinement.

The Seiko Quartz Astron was introduced in Tokyo on December 25, 1969. It delivered unmatched performance. It was accurate to within 5 seconds per month, 100 times more accurate than any other watch and it ran continuously for a year, or 250 times longer than most mechanical watches. The quartz revolution had begun.

10 thoughts on “Seiko Analog Men’s Wrist Watch (Green Dial, Silver Band), SRPD61K1

  1. Worth it. Beautiful time piece. Been a couple of days only so haven’t commented about the accuracy but don’t see much deviation so far.

  2. Genuine product.Watch is absolutely beautiful. The craftsmanship is incredible. but the watch slightly heavy.

  3. What I like:- Super Quality & Good finishing- Feels really sturdy and premium- Has a unique appeal to it. Definitely a head turner ( especially this color)- Pretty Accurate time telling with very or hardly any variance- Can interchange straps to give the watch a new look- Carries the Seiko 5 legacyWhat I don’t like:- A little to thick in size… mainly due to the design. Seiko 5 has also launched other versions without the rotating bezel.- On the heavier side for people who are not used to watches with a little weight.- You will have to set time and date again if the watch is left stagnant for more than 40 hoursOverall an amazing watch to add to your collection from Seiko. If you are looking for a premium, elegant, automatic and quality watch under INR 25k go for this Seiko 5.

  4. Brilliant piece. A head turner for many when you wear it on your wrist. Lovely metal that gives you a feel of wearing a rich piece on wrist.

  5. This is my first automatic watch, so having trouble adjusting the time and date every time when the watch is not in use.The dial looks great but the belt provided looks cheap. Overall a good buy for 16990. UPDATE: I have changed the belt and it looks great now

  6. This is the first automatic watch bought by me. I had a HMT inherited from my grandpa. This watch is great. The colour is also nice. Not green not blue its a mixture of the both. Once fully wind it lasts for 40hours appx. And if you wear it daily it doesn’t need to be wind. Seiko has really done a great job. A must add if your budget is 20-25k.

  7. You can never go wrong with a Seiko 5! Seiko proved it again. Nothing to complain other than the 100m water resistance which is a downgrade from seiko skx. But in every other aspects it beats the iconic sks. So you should take extra care when it comes to water exposure! The green dial is simply astounding. Loved it from every angle. Although I’ll probably change the bracelet in future.

  8. Very good Watch! Formal or Informal or Party! It’s best! One of the best watch brands better then the other overpriced luxury brands which are nonsense!

  9. This Green is one of the best color option you can get for this watch, It’s a darker hue of Turquoise greenish blue, The watch looks way more luxurious than the offered price, also the Radium/Lume is super bright and quite long lasting which is typical of Seiko. This is a 100% genuine watch, purchased from the seller Authentic watch world sent with stamped warranty card. The unit that I received is very well regulated which has a accuracy of +2/+4 sec per day which is the accuracy expected from a watch costing 5x more price than this. Overall i’m very happy with this watch and I recommend this to people who are planning to buy automatic watches for the first time as this is a perfect watch to start a collection.
