History of the only manufacture with every watchmaking expertise

The story of Seiko began in 1881, when a 22 year old entrepreneur, Kintaro Hattori, opened a shop selling and repairing watches and clocks in central Tokyo. Today, after more than 130 years of innovation, Kintaro Hattori’s company isstill dedicated to the perfection that the founder always strove to achieve.

In 1892 Kintaro Hattori bought a disused factory in Tokyo and Seikosha was formed (In Japanese, ‘Seiko’ means ‘exquisite’, ‘minute’ or ‘success’ and ‘sha’ means house). It was here that Kintaro Hattori produced his first clocks and these marked the beginnings of a company that was to become one of the world’s most important manufacturers of timepieces.

Throughout the 1890’s, the success of Seikosha’s wall clock business increased, and Kintaro looked to broaden the range of his business. In 1895, he created a pocket watch, the Timekeeper. It was a vital step forward, without which the future of Seiko would have been very different as it paved the way for Japan’s first ever wrist watch.

In the beginning of the Taisho Era, pocket watches were still very popular and there were only a few wristwatches imported to Japan. Kintaro, however, was determined to be ‘one step ahead’ and embarked on the ardous task of creating Japan’s first ever wristwatch. In 1913, he succeeded and the Laurel was produced. In the early days, the company was able to produce only 30 to 50 watches a day, but, for the first time, Kintaro had established a lead on the rest.

In 1923, the Great Kanto Earthquake struck and the company’s headquarters and the Seikosha factory all burned down. A fresh start had to be made. Just after the earthquake, the company had created an entirely new watch and it went on sale in December 1923. It was the first to carry the name Seiko, introducing the world for the first time the brand name that was later to become synonymous with precision and accuracy, innovation and refinement.

The Seiko Quartz Astron was introduced in Tokyo on December 25, 1969. It delivered unmatched performance. It was accurate to within 5 seconds per month, 100 times more accurate than any other watch and it ran continuously for a year, or 250 times longer than most mechanical watches. The quartz revolution had begun.

Die WR is 100m. Design sehr ähnlich zu SKX.Also SKX Nachfolgerin?Nein. Jederzeit. Aber auch die SKX.Bilder: Links SKX mit Miltat Armband (Aftermarket), recht SRPD mit Meyhofer Nato Armband (Aftermarket). Das Testprotokoll ist von der SRPD.

  2. As I unbox it, It looks smaller then I thought but as soon as I hold it and put it on my wrist I came to learn its value. Ultimate classy.

  3. This watch made me go back to analogue after wearing a smart watch for almost 4-5 years. I went from the Moto 360 2nd Gen to this beautiful Seiko. What I like most about this watch is the classic diver-style design of the watch. The aesthetic looks timeless. I’d say it’s a great medium range watch to get your collection started. The watch feels very good on the wrist. You’ll feel confident wearing it. If you’re looking for a watch in this range, it’s a classic essential a man should have!

  4. Purchased the SRPD55K1 mid February ,first one I received had the notorious Seiko fault of misalignment which is usually the bezel insert or chapter ring however mine was the indice at 6 o’clock (see pic 3 ) Returned this for replacement which was absolutely perfectly aligned.I have purposely waited for the watch to run in for at least a month(wearing it for at least 12 hours per day )before reviewing the accuracy of this watch and it is astounding for the price. The movement is the in-house Seiko 4R36 and after 4 to 5 weeks it seems to have settled at minus 3 seconds per day which is 99.995% accurate. The look of the watch is very good and easily readable, its luminous hands and indices are outstanding and it has 100 meters water resistance which is more than enough for anyone unless you’re James bond. It has hand winding and hackable features. It is everything you need in a mechanical watch with the knowledge that its from a great watch manufacturer. I know theres a lot of competition in this price range ,even some cheaper but all in all…….they just dont seem to be able to match that feeling of having a quality Seiko watch on your wrist.N.b This watch has come in for unwarranted criticism for been a poor SKX replacement. It is not the SKX replacement ,its a Seiko sports, if you need the James Bond 200 meters water resistance buy a seiko prospex but be prepared to dig deep into your pocket.

  5. I’ve always been a Seiko fan especially the 5 series. I like the fact the owner powers the movement ie it’s automic .This model is basically a tribute to the style of the now discontinued Skx . The range is also heavily influenced by the modification scene that exists around Skx watches. So if you want a great looking quality automatic that looks like the iconic Skx then this is for you. However it’s does not have the spec of Skx watches ,it’s not a divers watch. What it is , is a very nice looking Seiko 5 at a very good price.

  6. First of all thanks to Amazon and seller, product received earlier than expected, packaging was good received perfect. It is a good looking watch and time accuracy is exact as expected from its brand. The dial size looks a bit smaller in some wrists but it gives a classic & premium feel and lum in dark is really awesome. Thanks to Amazon.
